Within Temptation’s Sharon den Adel Talks Racing In A New Direction

For over a decade, Within Temptation have been heralded as one of metal’s top acts in Europe, but many Americans have yet to really hear and appreciate the band. With last week’s release of their fifth studio album, The Unforgiving, a vast new ocean of fans should soon be washing them up on American soil. The album has already debuted at #50 on Billboard’s Top 200 after the first week of sales.
Having spent nearly 15 years cultivating the band’s signature sound, a sound they captured to near perfection on 2007′s The Heart of Everything, Within Temptation were not content to simply continue on in the same direction. On The Unforgiving, the band charts new territory, recreating their style, and developing a sonic vibrancy that draws on and pays homage to the melodic rock heights of the 80′s.
While everything old may be new again, Within Temptation shows us that it’s certainly not stale. This time around the band expanded on their creativity, adding cinematic themes and even a comic book story to the concept of the album.
This week Metalholic chatted with one of metal’s most dynamic voices and sweetest personalities, Sharon den Adel. She shares with us the path to The Unforgiving, talks about juggling the rock and roll life with family, and tells us about her newest hobby. You might be surprised.
