Halloween Q&A: Margarita Monet on the EDGE OF PARADISE

Monet Puts Metal To Canvas

Margarita Monet is a well traveled woman. At three years old the young Armenian moved to Russia, and from there to Houston, Texas where the acting bug bit. This took her to the Big Apple, but her musical soul cried out and she found her way to Los Angeles. Upon meeting guitarist/songwriter Dave Bates, she realized she’d finally found a home.

Only two weeks after meeting Bates the two put together Edge of Paradise, a straight up modern metal band with nuances of industrial and punk. The rest of the quartet is rounded out by bassist Steven Cook and drummer Kevin Katich. The band self-released its debut album, Mask, this year to startling acclaim for an act not yet inked by a major label.

Helping the band out on its debut are well known rockers like Robin McAuley (MSG, Survivor), Greg Bissonette (David Lee Roth, Joe Satriani, Santana), Tony Franklin (The Firm, Blue Murder, Freakshow) and Bjorn Englen (Quiet Riot, Yngwie Malmsteen). That’s pretty good company and talent to surround oneself with. And you know you have something special when the same PR company that reps a band like Judas Priest, is pushing you too.

On Halloween I had the opportunity to chat with Monet about how the band came together, her influences, the tragedy behind the album’s title cut, and even her favorite Halloween costume. Take a listen below, and if you want to know more check out 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Margarita Monet.
