Good news for Kara DioGuardi–getting the boot from American Idol can be a blessing. Just ask former contestant Carly Smithson. She could not be happier that things turned out the way they did.
Since being the sixth place finalist on Season 7 of the highly popular series, Smithson has gone on to find what she truly wanted, a real band that felt like a family. In 2009, Smithson teamed up with founding Evanescence members Ben Moody, John LeCompt and Rocky Gray. Along with bassist Marty O’Brien the quintet formed We Are The Fallen.
This spring the band unveiled their first album, Tear The World Down– an epic debut of dark, edgy beauty. The record winds rich aural tapestries, with intriguing lyrics to create at once engagingly familiar, yet fresh and inspiring style.
The band is currently wrapping up their tour with Saving Abel, and preparing to release the album’s second single. The album’s advance debut single, “Bury Me Alive” was brought to the band by Smithson, and was in a way the icebreaker for their writing collaboration.
The video for “Bury Me Alive” can be viewed below, and you can get a free copy of the acoustic version of the song on their website WeAreTheFallen.com.
In April I spoke with Carly about the band and album, and last month I had a chance to sit down with her here in Boise and get to know her just a little bit better.
