Exclusive Interview with Alcest’s, Neige.

Imagine a childhood experience or vision so strong and full of impact, that you would choose to spend your life and your art attempting to interpret it. This is the path of Alcest founder Stéphane “Neige” Paut who began this project in his teens and continues to this day to explain the story of his “other world” through the music he creates. This month, Neige, along with drummer Winterhalter, released Alcest’s third studio effort, Les Voyages de l’Âme.

While Alcest may have been born of black metal roots, the band has grown into an ethereal, avant garde musical dreamscape, tapping into a well of emotions with every note. Very little of the band’s sonic foundation remains. However, what Neige has created in its absence is something far more monumental and engaging. There exists a journey of spirituality in Alcest‘s work that lifts the soul.

This week Neige took a few minutes to touch base on the new album and how it compares to the band’s previous effort, Écailles de Lune. He also offered a glimpse into the future of the band’s creation, his passions outside of music, and his favorite album of 2011. Come in and listen to metal’s boundless soul. Read our review of Les Voyages de l’Âme. Then go out and get your ears on Alcest‘s wonderous music.

Alcest will hit American soil in late March for some East Coast dates.
